Our Research Program
Our work includes a number of distinct, yet complementary areas of focus. Click the categories below to learn more about our studies.
> Weight management interventions
We have a number of ongoing intervention studies, conducted in a variety of settings (e.g. primary care, community recreation centers), designed to assist individual to manage their weight through the adoption of healthful lifestyle behaviors.
> Social predictors of obesity risk and weight change
We’ve been quite interested in determining how social and psychosocial factors influence obesity risk and weight change among Blacks. This work is conducted through original data collection as well as secondary data analyses in public use datasets (e.g. NHANES, BRFSS).
> Social contextual influences on physical activity
Through both original data collection and secondary data analysis, the goals of this arm of our program have been: 1) to develop strategies to more accurately characterize physical activity behaviors among lower income and ethnic minority populations, and; 2) to determine features of the low income social context that adversely impact physical activity.
